General Education Capstone

GEN499: General Education Capstone

Prepare: As you prepare to write your response to this discussion assignment, it will be in your best interest to review the following resources in the Ashford Writing Center, which can be found within the Writing Resources tab under Research Writing Tutorials:

And in the Ashford University Library, view tutorials titled Picking Your Topic IS Research and Database Search Tips.

Reflect: When considering a research topic, consider an interesting topic that is worth further research. For instance, having a strong opinion on a specific topic may deter you from thinking more critically, and therefore the research might end up being one-sided. It is a good idea to pick a topic in which you can provide a good argument for both sides of the societal issue.

Write: The first step in the research process is selecting a topic that is both interesting and manageable. For this discussion:

  • Review the Final Research Project instructions in Week Five, and identify two potential research topics. Keep in mind that you will choose just one for the Week Three Annotated Bibliography assignment and the Final Research Project.
  • Describe methods to use in identifying and narrowing your research paper topic.
  • Examine and summarize information from at least two scholarly sources for one of the topics that may prove valuable as you seek to defend your claims regarding your chosen topic.
  • Address why scholarly sources should be used to support your writing on the selected topic.

Your initial post should be at least 250 words in length. Support your claims with examples from required material(s) and/or other scholarly sources, and properly cite any references.

Respond to Peers: Review your classmates’ posts, and respond to at least two of your peers by Day 7. In each response, provide comments on your classmate’s topic idea and ask a question that prompts your classmate to think more critically about how to explore the research topic in more detail. Each participation post should be a minimum of 75 words.

principles of universal design for learning

EDU 620 3

This assignment provides the opportunity for you to apply the principles of universal design for learning (UDL) in the design of instruction and assessment. Recall that UDL provides access to the curriculum for students with a wide variety of abilities and background. Therefore, UDL aligns with inclusionary practices found in today’s schools. Furthermore, assistive technology supports the UDL framework to provide a means of learning for students with disabilities. To prepare for this assignment, review the CAST (2010) video, UDL at a glance  and review the Explore model UDL lesson plans (2011) web page, both of which are listed in the Week Three Required Resources. Be sure to also review the Week Three Instructor Guidance page for additional intellectual elaboration on UDL and assistance with this assignment.

Begin preparing for this assignment by selecting a specific model lesson from the Explore Model UDL Lesson Plans (2011) page of the CAST.org website. Analyze the lesson for the points described in the Content Instructions included with this assignment, below. Click on the “UDL Connections” buttons located at various points in the lesson to analyze how UDL principles have been integrated. Next, create your assignment to meet the content and written communication instructions below. Use the Grading Rubric to review your assignment before submission to ensure you have met the distinguished performance for each of the components described below. For additional assistance with this assignment, review the Week Three Instructor Guidance page and, if needed, contact the instructor for further clarifications using the “Ask Your Instructor” discussion forum.

Philosophy of Education Statement

What is it?
A philosophy statement of education is a concise summary of your personal beliefs about teaching and learning.
Why write one?
To be an effective teacher/counselor, your beliefs about teaching and learning and assisting must be based on an explicit set of values. It is the first-step in becoming a Reflective Professional.
Gail Goodyear and Douglas Allchin  (Goodyear and Allchin, 1998), present another purpose for writing a teaching philosophy:
“In preparing a statement of teaching philosophy, professors assess and examine themselves to articulate the goals they wish to achieve in teaching. . . . A clear vision of a teaching philosophy provides stability, continuity, and long-term guidance . . . . A well–defined philosophy can help them remain focused on their teaching goals and to appreciate the personal and professional rewards of teaching.” (pp. 106–7)

Education and the good life

Much debate has been presented on the status of education in this country. With the continuing deteriorating state of the economy, fear of funding cuts has moved to the forefront of this discussion as universities (both public and private), school districts, and extracurricular programs face the reality of budget slashing. But this is clearly not the only issue in the wide topic of education. Central to the argument is always the various perspectives of how people should be educated. Write a paper exploring what it means (i.e. a definitional essay) to be educated and to use that education in life and/or the workforce. In other words, how is education important to achieving “the good life”? This paper will challenge you to define the concept of education and to incorporate disciplinary knowledge from the experts and theorists of a certain major or field of study. For this paper, you are trying to study the concept of education and learning from the perspective of a particular discipline: · A biological explanation of how learning takes place at the neuro-chemical level · A linguistic and/or philosophical understanding of the various meanings of education · A social analysis of the benefits (or disadvantages) to formal education, including public/private school, homeschooling, standardized testing, etc. · A historical treatment of how people were formally educated within a particular civilization · A literary essay examining the treatment of education in at least one major work. · An economic essay describing how class and money plays into education · Another disciplinary analysis must be approved by the instructor. One crucial aspect of this paper that you must consider is your thesis. What are you going to argue? Will you argue that education occurs as the result of endorphins, and if so, what triggers those endorphins? Will you argue for the tabula rasa (blank slate) theory, or that genetics alone predetermines our ability to learn? Will you argue that Dickens’ depiction of education in Hard Times differs dramatically from Dante’s in The Inferno, and if so, how does it differ? Begin with a hypothesis, then do some serious research to support (or, if you have to, argue against) that hypothesis. State your thesis at the beginning of your paper, and then spend the rest of the paper defending that thesis. Though it is not required, I definitely encourage you to email me with questions, concerns, or just to talk about how your topic might work. This essay is to be between 1,750 and 2,000 words, written in Times New Roman, 12-font. For this essay, you are required to use four external sources, two of which must come from the articles in Chs. 25 and 26 of your textbook. These sources must help you build your argument, not give you definitions (e.g. dictionaries, encyclopedias, and “about” websites are off-limits).

History of women teachers

APA format is required for including a reference page with a minimum of five academic sources cited. Minimum of 1500 words. Topic is on gender socialization and the impact on society.

Early Childhood Education

Early Childhood Education

In this Project, you will develop an appealing and informative handout for parents offering developmentally appropriate tips for dealing with health and safety issues in children from birth to age eight. Each of the possible topics includes an ethical component that you will address in your handout.

This handout will target parent education on developmentally appropriate expectations for the age group you have chosen and give specific health and safety tips including environmental considerations. In addition you will write a short description of ethical considerations that may arise when discussing this topic with parents.

You will begin with an introductory paragraph on why the topic you selected addresses developmentally appropriate expectations for the age group you have chosen. Next, you will give specific health and safety tips for parents based on your topic. You will conclude with a discussion of how your approach to this topic aligns with NAEYC guidelines and how an early childhood care professional can address the ethical obligations to children and their families on the chosen topic.

This handout will focus on one area with ethical implications of many key issues in infant, toddler, or early childhood growth and development. You may choose from the following list of topics with ethical considerations:

  • Discipline/guidance strategies

  • Breast feeding/formula use

  • Need for child safety in with growing child independence

    • can address indoor and/or outdoor environment

  • Child choice in food versus family choice

  • Sibling rivalry issues

  • Including pets in the family

Your responses should follow the conventions of Standard American English (correct grammar, punctuation, etc.). Your writing should be well ordered, logical and unified, as well as original and insightful. Your work should display superior content, organization, style, and mechanics. Use the APA style for all citations. There should be no evidence of plagiarism. More details can be found in the GEL-1.1 Universal Writing Rubric.

Project Guidelines:

Use the template provided in Unit 9 Template.doc in Doc Sharing. Your handout must:

  • Be written in Standard American English

  • APA style for references

  • Double-spaced using 12-point font

Developmentally Appropriate Teaching Strategies

 SOC 312 Week 3 assignment

Developmentally Appropriate Teaching Strategies

Read the articles “10 Effective DAP Teaching Strategies” and “Culturally Responsive Classroom Strategies.” In addition, view the Culture in the Classroom website and the Keynote by Lisa Delpit (Teaching Tolerance) video

After reviewing the required resources, identify and discuss three challenges involved with ensuring that teaching strategies are appropriate for culturally diverse children. Then, discuss these cultural challenges in the classroom using one sociological perspective (i.e., functionalism, conflict theory, symbolic interactionism, etc.) and another relevant perspective, such as Piaget’s preoperational stage of development. Finally, identify and discuss how the challenges related to differences in culture may be addressed by a teacher in a way that increases the child’s cognitive advancement and academic success.

You must use at least two scholarly sources other than the textbook and required resources for this assignment. The paper must include a summary of each of the challenges identified and each of the remedies to those challenges. In addition, you must include an explanation of the cultural challenges in the classroom using one of the sociological perspectives and Piaget’s theory of the preoperational stage of cognitive development.

Educational deficiencies

Assume the role of a chief researcher for the state Department of Education who is examining two groups with similar educational deficiencies. One group involved in the study is a rural, ethnically-defined, aboriginal group with a high rate of health issues including diabetes, vision impairment, and heart disease. The other group is also a rural group living on family-owned farms (as opposed to corporate farms) that are in severe decline as a result of years of decreasing rainfall and drought. Both groups’ exhibit achievement test scores that are more than one standard deviation below the mean at all grade levels, and excessive high school drop-out rates.

General Requirements:

Use the following information to ensure successful completion of the assignment:

• Instructors will be using a grading rubric to grade the assignments. It is recommended that learners review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment in order to become familiar with the assignment criteria and expectations for successful completion of the assignment.

• Doctoral learners are required to use APA Style 6th Edition Empirical/Peer Journals References within 5 Years for their writing assignments.

• This assignment requires that at least two additional scholarly research

sources related to this topic, and at least one in-text citation from each source be included.

• You are required to submit this assignment to Turnitin.

Directions:

Use the scenario presented above to write a paper of 1,000-1,250 words that addresses the use of qualitative research as a means of studying the two groups in the scenario. Include the following in your paper:

1. A rationale for using qualitative research methods instead of quantitative research.

2. A statement of how the worldviews and paradigms of the researcher may create bias when applying qualitative research to the given scenario.

Part 2

In order to acknowledge and understand the diversity of childrearing beliefs and practices among families, you must first acknowledge and understand your own beliefs and practices about childrearing. Exploring and analyzing your own history and its effects on your behavior may assist you in creating a better understanding and compassion for the families with which you are entrusted to support. Please review the section on Cultural Models and Child-Rearing Practices (pages 75–78) and write a 2-page reflection essay discussing your own child-rearing beliefs and practices and how these beliefs might influence your work with diverse families.
Discuss how these topics do or do not influence you today and how they might have an effect on your work with diverse families. Stay focused on relevant information concerning the implications for your work with young children and their families.

• History: family history of ethnic origin, language (s), geography, and immigration
• Growing up: where you grew up, pattern of movement or stability, and your family of origin structure
• Your current family or living structure

Part 4

Next, assume you have been hired by a school district to provide inclusion support to children with disabilities, ages 3–5. Write a two-page reflection essay on which inclusion model you might like to try and why. Discuss what it might look like and what skills you might need to acquire or already have that might help the model develop successfully—keep in mind that there is no one right inclusion model. There are a variety of ways to accomplish inclusion. The choice of models depends on the needs of the child, family, staff, and resources of the program.

Teaching the Class

See the attachments. This assignment is “Teaching Class”. We are group of 4 students. We have to teach the class the topic “Groups and Teams”. We have to use information from out the class materials; so do NOT use the information from the files. I uploaded the Summary of the chapter to show you idea of the topic. We should use two sources at least. I am looking for help with that:

My parts are LO7, LO8 ONLY.

LO7: MUST have explanation HOW gender, culture, and technology affect group interaction.

LO8: Apply techniques for improving group effectiveness.

NOTE: See the attachment first to make sure you do NOT write about my group parts.

I want you to make the PowerPoint, so I can teach the class my part. The presentation MUST be at least 6 minutes so make sure the PowerPoint has enough information for that. Also, I want you to provide two short FUNNY videos Maximum about 30 seconds. First one is about the diversity in group. The second is about either technology affect group OR techniques for improving group. And add the videos’ links in PowerPoint.

I’m thinking that the PowrPoint has slides: 1st/ slide about Gernder. 2nd/ about Culture. 3/ about Technology. 4 & 5/ about Techniques for improving group, at least. And write all the information in the slides eventhough the information too much. I’ll take care of it. The most important I can present at least 6 minutes.

Also, You can add more slides as you want. But no more than 10. Please try to add some photos.

Education

For your initial post in this discussion, present an overview and individual descriptions of the measures that you propose to assess student learning outcomes. Explain how each of the proposed assessment measures will demonstrate achievement of the learning objectives and goals that you established earlier in your Assessment and Evaluation of Learning Plan. Use and cite the readings from your Assessing Student Learning text as you summarize and describe the assessment measures.
I have the book called Assessing Student Learning and for some reason I cant upload the chapters. You have to go on Googleplay.com Username is Stwin27@gmail.com and password is georgia1. Click on book and then click on myboooks and you will see the book. Its Chapter 9,11,12, 13, 14 and this is the reference that has to be used.
